Except in Oregon. Any rainbow over 16 inches is considered a steelhead regardless of it going to the ocean or not.

My uncle lived on a farm in Tillamook Oregon next to the oceam. They were a rocks throw from the ocean and had a river flowing from the ocean through the back of his farm property. I would go out their and fish occasionally with my brothet dad and uncle. This was the first time i learned what a steelhead was because it almost pulled me into the river and after about 20 minutes of fighting i pulled that big boy in but i never knew how they actually became classified as a steelhead other than they were bigger but this knowledge opened my eyes

Quiet on here lately, hope all is well with everyone. You know what they say, the best laid plans. My one day turn around trip did not live up to my expectations but that's fishing I reckon. Started off at lake Diaz there was a guy in a float tube close to shore he points out several good size trout cruising the shore line he said he had been throwing every type of lure, jig and they just weren't interested so he sugested I just try bait I fished there for an hour and caught nothing. Then I headed for the different sand traps and sure enough a stocking truck from that private hatchery (don't know the name) in Oregon they hired for the derby the frollowing day shows up at 1PM and in went lot of big trout. Niether me, or anyone else caught any of those nice fish. My guess is they needed time to acclimate to their new envoronment and that didn't happen that day. I caught few DOW stockers along with the few others I seen fishing and didn't see anyone land any decent size trout.. Spent my time between 2 of the 4 sand traps then headed for the barn around 7 PM. I enjoyed myself and at least I wasn't at work dealing with the usual sniveling fools. Not sure when I'll go up again the wife and I have a Vegas trip planned for August then it will be time to start thinking about hunting.

Glad to see Mono County still stocks the hell out of there fisheries, i can remember when they use to stock rainbows up to 10 lbs that they purchased from the Alpers Ranch!

That pond will certainly get your attention mahalo for that! Going up for a quick turnaround trip this Friday by my lonesome to fish Diaz and all the sand traps fish from sun up to sun down then drive home prolly wake Hula girl in the middle of the night when I arrive home at 1 in the AM that should make for a long weekend LOL. Won't be any further north than Indpendence. Would stay Longer but I needs to get to the range and finish some load development on my recent 220 Swft build. Hunting season is around the corner.

Pack it in......pack it out. Don't leave anything behind, especially soiled diapers. The trash i see laying around doesn't paint a Great picture of Our Natural Beauty.
